Erin Harris Coaching

A sophisticated and feminine brand for a trail blazer

When Erin Harris, an established executive in the male-dominated sports and entertainment industry, approached me to create a brand identity, her goal was clear. She wanted to establish a brand identity for her coaching business that resonated with strength, professionalism, and feminine elegance to connect with her target audience of female leaders aged 35 to 50. Erin was determined to break the traditional barriers in her field and empower other women to ascend to leadership roles with confidence and grace.

The branding process from start to finish

The project began with a questionnaire that Erin filled out diligently. Her responses were rich with descriptive words such as "empowerment," "integrity," and "results," which painted a vivid picture of what she envisioned for her brand. This early engagement was crucial in addressing a common concern among clients about whether the branding will truly reflect their vision. By closely involving Erin in this foundational step, we ensured the brand would authentically represent her values and objectives.

In step 2 of the process, we turned to Pinterest for inspiration. Erin was deeply involved in this process, creating boards and selecting images that reflected her taste of logo styles, colour palettes, and typography. These Pinterest boards were pivotal in exploring the emotional tone and visual aesthetic Erin wished to set for her brand.

Curating from Erin's images collected on Pinterest, I designed and presented a mood board with 2 colour variations. Colour palettes were explored that included pale pinks, blue/greens, and greys—colours that conveyed sophistication and strength without being overly feminine or traditional. Overall, the mood board crystallized the envisioned brand aesthetic, balancing sophistication with an unapologetically strong and feminine demeanour, setting a definitive visual direction for the subsequent design phases.

Curating images from the plethora of images on Pinterest, I designed and presented a mood board with 2 colour variations — pale pink and soft blue. One selected board crystallized the envisioned brand aesthetic, balancing sophistication with an unapologetically strong and feminine demeanor, setting a definitive visual direction for the subsequent design phases. The mood board perfectly encapsulated the desired aesthetic—strength with softer edges and a welcoming, yet powerful demeanour.

With the mood board as our guide, multiple logo concepts began to take shape. By the sixth week, I presented Erin with 2-3 primary logo designs. Each design was a blend of the attributes Erin valued: femininity balanced with undeniable professionalism. Each reflected the brand's core values, but one design stood out distinctly. It embodied the perfect balance of all the attributes Erin wanted her brand to represent. This logo was not just a symbol; it was a declaration of her mission to empower and lead.

A collaborative process

Others might be concerned about the process itself, fearing it could be overly time-consuming or technically challenging. However, Erin's involvement from the questionnaire to the final selection empowered her and demystified the process. This collaboration ensured that the final product authentically represented her vision and business objectives, making the investment in custom branding not just worthwhile but essential for her continued success and influence as a female executive coach.

Many potential clients might also worry about the tangible benefits of investing in custom branding. Erin's experience addresses these concerns directly. She found that the thoughtful, personalized approach not only reflected her identity but also clearly communicated her values and mission to her target audience, significantly enhancing her professional engagements and opportunities.

Handing off digital-ready files

Upon refining the chosen logo and finalizing the brand identity elements, everything was packaged up, from logo variations to typography and color guidelines, into a comprehensive brand identity board. A powerpoint document with all branding details also served not just as a guideline but as the blueprint for how Erin would communicate her brand to the world, ensuring consistency across all platforms.

Final thoughts and appreciation

Erin’s feedback was overwhelmingly positive. She felt that the branding not only captured her essence but also equipped her with the tools to elevate her professional image and connect more effectively with her audience. The new brand identity has since increased her visibility and credibility, leading to more speaking engagements and client consultations.
